New BSF Services

The BSF has recently installed a robotics platform for automated library preparation, making it possible to offer comprehensive services for a number of popular protocols (please see Services & Pricing for details). For example, the BSF now offers RNA-seq, exome sequencing and whole genome sequencing from purified DNA/RNA samples all the way to an initial data analysis, all on the scale of 96-well plates of samples.

Analyzing and Interpreting DNA Methylation Data

Are you interested in studying DNA methylation? For example as an epigenetic biomarker for cancer diagnostics and therapy optimization, or in order to dissect the epigenetic basis of common diseases by epigenome-wide association studies?

The following video talk by BSF coordinator Dr. Christoph Bock provides an introduction into the many opportunities and approaches for studying DNA methylation. It is in part based on a recent paper on this topic (Bock 2012 Nature Reviews Genetics), and it also provides a perspective of how DNA methylation data will be able to complement (and in part supersede) mutation-based and expression-based biomarkers in cancer research.

4th Vienna NGS Symposium on October 9, 2014

The BSF (Dr. Christoph Bock) and the NGS Facility of the CSF (Dr. Andreas Sommer) are organizing a symposium and workshop on next generation sequencing (NGS), with the aim to better connect Vienna's NGS community and to showcase interesting applications of NGS in biology and medicine. The event will take place at CeMM on Thursday, October 9th, 2014. Please visit http://www.cemm.oeaw.ac.at/events for details on the program and free registration for the workshop.
